Rei Layla Shikhem
" Behind my eyes hold many secrets..."
the basics,
»»character full name: Rei Layla Shikhem. Rei for short, although her husband called her Layla.
»»age: 27
»»sexual orientation: Straight
»»Alignment: Neither actually.
»»Position:Widow and Healer
»»Magic: Healing powers
the appearance,
»»eyes: Sea green
»»markings:Only her ears.
»»height: 5’4
»»weight: 115
»»general appearance:
Rei seems soft and feminine at first. She speaks carefully when she speaks at all in a deep tone that has been known for its ability to lull someone to sleep. Her peaceful appearance is part of what makes her a skilled healer. She has jet black hair that flows down to her waist. She dressed in simply dresses usually plane forest colors, and simple blouses with a corset over the top. She’s not at all vain even though she is beautiful. More often than not she allows her hair to flow freely unless she’s working in her garden. Her skin is tanner than most light elves, since she doesn’t keep out of the sun. She’s not at all a weak and dainty type of woman like many of the maidens in the castle. She’s curvaceous and built for work. Her expression is usually blank or cynical, however she has been known to smile, even after the death of her husband, but it is on rare occasions. Many who knew her before she lost her husband in the war would say her eyes still hold in them all the sadness in the world.
the personality,
»»likes:
-Small creatures
-Gardening
-A simple life away from the war
-Flowers and Herbs
»»dislikes:
-The War and Soldiers
-Weak stomached people
-Lightning storms
»»strengths:
-She’s very wise, possibly even wise beyond her years. She thinks that there is a better way to end this war than violence, but apparently she’s the only one who thinks so.
-Her skill in healing is the some best around and she’s well known for it.
»»weaknesses:
-Her bitterness of loosing her husband. It’s something that makes her resentful of most anyone who has to do with the war.
-Being able to take a joke. Shes doesn’t laugh often, never really has, and she doesn’t take sarcasm at all well. That’s possibly why she’s terrible at flirting.
»»secrets:
-Before her husband ran off and got killed he and Rei had a huge argument about his affair with another woman.
»»general personality:
Rei is somber, to say the least, and she doesn’t take much nonsense. Perhaps that is why she’s never been good with children and never wanted to have any. She does like little creatures however, especially ones that in need of protection. In spite of her dislike of war and violence, she tends to heal many of the fallen soldiers and is willing to do so for either side. She values life, even the smallest life, and she does anything necessary to save it.
When alone, she tends to hum a lot, old tunes taught to her by the healer that took her in as an orphaned child and taught her everything she knows. She’s long since forgotten the words but the melodies stay with her always. She keeps herself busy always. When she’s not gardening she is cleaning, when she’s not cleaning she’s healing. If there is ever any time left over from that, she likes to take walks through the trees searching the forest floor for truffles or other interesting things.
Even though Rei doesn’t say much, she has no problem with speaking her mind when angered or annoyed. Stupidity isn’t something she tolerates and she’s very VERY stubborn.
the history,
»»mother: Unknown.
»»father: Unknown
»»siblings: Unknown
»»others:
Mother Healer Layla: The old healer woman who took Rei into her home and healed her. She died many years ago.
Hansen Picar Shikhem: A Knight of the Light Kingdom. Died in combat.
»»background:
Rei was first known as a tiny little year old child, carted in panic to the healer woman. Some kind farmers found her in the woods during a lightning storm. She wasn’t breathing and her skin had turned blue. Everyone thought her already dead but the healer woman somehow worked her magic and the child came to life again. The kind farmers searched high and low for the childs parents, and in the meantime the Healer, who never had a child of her own, grew attached. Soon enough Rei had her name and she became the apprentice to the woman. Knowing her as Mother Layla, Rei was a happy and carefree girl, but she soon learned how serious the title of healer was and she became very skilled in stressful situations.
When she turned thirteen a young Knight was brought to Layla and Rei by his family. He’d been severely injured in combat and he was on the shady side of death, but through long days and nights of tender care and work the women nursed him back to health. His name was Hansen, a handsome knight with striking features. He had a mane of red hair and dark eyes. They opened on Rei and she knew she was in love.
The Knight went away for a few years, and Rei couldn’t keep herself from remembering him.
When she turned fifteen Layla died, leaving the healing ability with Rai and she went on with the same kind of life, taking on Laylas name after her own. She began the garden and made some money that way especially with the herbs she grew.
Then, one day, Hansen returned. He brought with him a wounded companion and asked for Rais help. After working her magic on the man, Hansen was impressed with her skill and ability and soon he found himself in love with the young woman even though he knew his family would not approve of her.
Forsaking his family, Hansen married Rei and lived with her for several months until he felt the itch of combat once again. For the next few months he came and went and each time he returned he seemed less and less interested in Rei.
Rei knew in her gut he was unfaithful to her and wished to be rid of their marriage, but she would not let him go. One night he came home to tell her he’d been with another woman and wanted to marry her. In a rage Rai cursed him and told him only through death she’d let him go.
If his body hadn’t been her proof, Rei would never believe Hansen was dead. She’d turned twenty three years when the cart arrived bearing the body of the one who was her husband, and all she could do was regret the curse she placed on him. The pain others observe in her countenance is that of regret, not mourning. Her constant work is because of her attempting to forget…
